Who are Fahrenheit and Ellemental?

At first glance, Fahrenheit 451 and Ellemental are technomancers—wielders of power born from code, memory, and signal. But beneath the flame and storm, they’re something much more personal.

Fahrenheit 451, whose real name is Caleb Smith, was once a firefighter in New York—a man defined by sacrifice. When a collapsing world consumed him in fire, he was saved not by chance, but by transformation. Reborn in molten metal and technomantic flame, he became the first Champion of the Grandchildren of Pandora: a symbol of justice, sacrifice, and controlled fury. He doesn’t speak often, but when he does, it’s with the gravity of someone who has burned for his beliefs and still stands.

Ellemental—Ellie Jarret-Smith—is his storm-anchor. A former veterinarian from the UK, once bound to a wheelchair by multiple sclerosis, she was transformed during the Pandora Bloom. Her power emerged amid thunder and wreckage, and she rose with it—not to dominate, but to protect. Where Fahrenheit blazes, she tempers. Where others see chaos, she sees strategy. She commands lightning not with rage, but with purpose.

Their bond predates the page. In truth, these two characters began long ago as avatars in City of Heroes—an MMO where I, across the ocean, played Firestarter, and my partner Joanne played Ellemental. We spent countless nights side by side, in-game and in headset, forging something deeper than digital. Over time, those characters became more than just fiction—they became reflections. And like us, they stand together through fire and storm.

In Echoes of the neXt, Fahrenheit and Ellemental are more than heroes. They are pillars. Survivors. Guardians of a broken world who still believe in rebuilding it. Not through control, but through compassion. Not through perfection, but persistence.

And in the sequel that’s now underway, their story is far from over.
